While working in the NHS I always spent every spare moment creating. Retirement and a move to Dorset have enabled my painting to take off in new directions. My Scottish upbringing sealed my preference for an abstract colourist approach.
Usually landscape is the starting point of my work but through abstraction each painting is encouraged to stand for itself, reflecting the mood of the subject. At first the work is raw, gradually becoming more refined but always expressing its own opinion. Often collage is combined with mixed media, working in layers over previous work. Colour, texture and forms appear giving depth to simple shapes.
In 2018 I was selected to become a member of Wessex Contemporary Arts. http://www.wesca.co.uk/.
I also share the management of a life drawing group at Charlton Musgrove Village Hall.
